K drama (rom com) to watch - Spooky in Love

Sometimes, finishing a K-drama can feel like work that never ends. Think East Palace. Spooky is NOT one of these K-dramas.

Spooky is an enjoyable fantasy/rom-com. The story line is certainly not new. The female lead (Park Eun-Bin) was a chaebol heiress. She was cursed and she had the special power to see ghosts. Outside of her day job as CEO of her hotel chain, she spent her night helping her special "guests".

The male lead (Yang Se-Jong... from Dr Romantic and Doona) was a prosecutor. They met unexpectedly at night when she was helping the ghosts. Romance soon blossomed.

The drama was fast paced (only 12 episodes). Essentially, there are two halves to the story. In the first half, the story line revolved around helping the ghosts. The second half of the drama reverted to the usual family power struggle.

The antagonists were so so... Not particularly despicable but annoying enough.

I really like the romance part of Spooky - how the two people slowly slowly falling in love. And how Yang won her heart through his devotion and constantly staying by her side despite being "bestowed" her special power for a time.

It is rated 92 on Asianwiki. Domestic rating also increased through the run.

While it is not an epic, nor a particularly original story, Spooky was a perfectly enjoyable rom-com. Worth checking out, especially if you are either a fan of Park or Yang.
